How do you ensure safety in your meetings?

ο„Ž

Google Meet makes a good point, one way is to make sure some people can’t attend! 🀣

But what about those times when you need to meet to work together?

Do you notice yourself or others not saying much?

or just smiling, agreeing and leaving?

Maybe there is another type of safety needed?

I find the work of ReWork and Joshua Kerievsky / Heidi Helfand useful here.

Psychological Safety:

πŸ‘‰ Refers to an individual’s perception of the consequences of taking an interpersonal risk.

πŸ‘‰ It is a belief that a team is safe for risk taking in the face of being seen as ignorant, incompetent, negative, or disruptive.

πŸ‘‰ It exists when you are not afraid to be yourself, to take risks, make mistakes, raise problems, ask questions and disagree with others.

πŸ‘‰ It exists when teammates feel confident that no one on the team will embarrass or punish anyone else for admitting a mistake, asking a question, or offering a new idea

Often people genuinely can’t see that they could be one of the reasons things don’t go well.

and of course safety needs to work both ways

but maybe some individual and team conversations are needed?

I know I’ve needed them.
