What is the one thing you’d like to improve?
Week 1️⃣
👉 Me (in a 1-2-1): What is the one thing you’d like to improve?
👉 Product Owner: chuckles at the word “one” and then obviously frustrated, goes on to list more and more things about the processes, the tools, the team and the organisation that could be improved.
👉 Me: takes notes, thinks, meets with others across the org
Week 2️⃣
👉 Me: Delivers training
👉 Me: Facilitates Ask Anything sessions
Week 3️⃣
👉 Me: Attends a couple of hours of team meetings
👉 Me: Does a couple of hours of follow up team coaching
👉 Me (in a 1-2-1): “How’s it going?”
👉 Product Owner: “Things are looking good, team cohesion already feels better!”
For context:
– these are good people,
– who are busy working hard,
– but were frustrated and discouraged about their situation.
In a very small amount of time I helped by:
– creating a space for all the perspectives to be heard,
– helping them identify the best problems to fix now,
– sharing other ways things could be done,
– letting them choose what would be best to do differently.
– supporting them with the changes
They now have hope that things can improve, and have already seen some wins.
This is not the end of their journey, and they know that.
I really don’t want them to be busy, I want them to be effective!
Seems the team wanted that too!
